Opening the therapy door: conversation starters
Ethical obligations of confidentiality can position us, (therapists, counsellors, social workers psychologists and psychiatrists) as passive receivers of communities’ secrets. There are many problems with this including the possibility that our silence will support the institutionally sanctioned position that the disturbances people are experiencing arise solely within an autonomous body. In the spirit of 'opening the therapy door’, I have produced a series of audio recordings where I reflect on the complexity of facilitating discovery orientated conversations with family members, friends, colleagues and the people you meet with.
