CRAFTING THERAPEUTIC CONVERSATIONS:
Mentoring Groups with a Focus on Families or Individual Therapy
There will be 2 mentoring groups to choose from. Each group has a focus on a specific clinical area, Family Therapy and Individual Therapy. We will meet initially for a 2 day workshop. After the workshop Auckland based participants will meet 3 times using a consultation process. Participants who are from out-of- Auckland will also meet 3 times using a Skype consultation process.
Crafting therapeutic conversations while maintaining a discovery orientation can only be effectively learnt through a ‘hands-on’ mentoring process. The mentoring process I am offering will invite people to participate in practicing a conversational style where we discover and highlight people’s (client’s) resources in order support them to address serious concerns.
Each meeting will begin with a didactic presentation around a topic or issue. I will then use a prismatic or recorded conversation to demonstrate how I work with people (clients) to explore the unique way they have and might navigate this life transition, trauma or relationship dynamic. After this demonstration, I will support participants to practice the skills which will increase their capacity to engage in these kinds of therapeutic or super-vision conversations. An integral part of this learning environment is developing the ability to reflect on the impact of the therapeutic conversation on our subjective interpretations or experiences within the therapeutic context.
